Tie-Dye Decorative Vases
Having little to no experience in ceramics, I chose to make a series of decorative vases. I had a hard time using the wheel my first couple of weeks. I even gave up and tried to hand-build some vases. When that didn’t work out, I went back to creating on the wheel again. I became comfortable with the wheel and I was able to make several small vases. I watched several videos on how to make vases with different forms and features. That is why all of my vases take different forms. My inspiration to glaze is where my work came to life. For the past year, my family has struggled with the loss of my grandfather. We have struggled with things like, losing a family business and struggling financially. My father especially has struggled with his grief. Being that it is hard to go home knowing that there is no time for complete relaxation, I have a hard time focusing on the positive. But with help from teachers and friends, I was able to find some light within the darkness and hope to find something good apart of each day. This inspired me to make tie-dye vases with all different colors. I added gold accents to shine through the tie-dye. This represents the light within all my chaos and remembering to find the light. Once I became comfortable with clay, ceramics was a way for me to find some quiet and focus. Ceramics was my place to go and release all my stress into my work. I definitely will be taking on ceramics 2 continuing to improve my skills.
